About

Hello, my name is Donna Guerin and I am so excited to be a part of the crew at Renaissance Secondary. I have been teaching for 20 years and have had the opportunity to teach in both New York and Colorado. I received my undergraduate degree in Business/Marketing from Marist College and my Masters in Education from Hofstra University. I have been honored to be chosen not only as an SDG Global Ambassador but also part of a global team of educators that works with Innovation Lab Schools.  These schools serve students in rural Africa and connect them with over 90 countries with innovative technology.  These schools are being partnered with Dr Jane Goodall and other world renowned educators around the globe.

Being a lifelong learner, and continuing to grow professionally, is very important to me as well as learning from others. I believe in building strong relationships with students and encouraging them to think and continue to try new things. I am a global thinker and love to get students involved in many projects that integrate the design thinking process and give them the opportunity to connect globally through many different forums. Throughout my career, I have made many connections with classrooms around the globe including such places as Rio, Ecuador, Canada and Australia to name a few. This past year I have enjoyed working with such global platforms as TeachRock.org and Design for Change.  We have 4 student groups who will be traveling to Rome, Italy this November to represent Renaissance and Colorado at a global conference.  They were chosen for their projects and work to make a difference here locally with global problems tied into the SDG Goals of 2030.  I am looking forward to working with our 6th graders and helping to develop their ideas to help our world.

Being a lover of technology, my classes have participated in and won in the DCSD Film Festival for the 3 years in a row. I believe strongly that students should follow their passions. Getting to know each student as an individual and what inspires them helps me to create a strong community of learners.

My husband Mark and I have been married for 25 years and we have 4 beautiful children of our own. Nicolette who recently graduated Boise State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Chloe who plans to work in the medical field will be a junior at UCCS in Colorado Springs. Ryan is will be a senior in High School and Jake will be entering 4rd grade in August. I am excited to continue my journey at Renaissance Secondary and can’t wait to learn and grow each day with the students and staff. Our voyage has just begun!
